Alberta Baby Name Explorer

This is a small web app you can use to see trends in how Albertans have named their babies since 1980.

Built with Python, Flask, SQLite, Selectize.js, Chart.js, Pure, and Jellyfish.

Uses open data from the Frequency and Ranking of Baby Names by Year and Gender. Figures are normalized based on a hypothetical birth rate of 50 000 babies per year; that is, graphs actually display the proportion of children with a given name over time, and not the absolute number with each name.
